Can I Diffuse CBD Oil?

CBD Oil

Aromatherapy and oil diffusers have been around for many years, and both have seen an increase in popularity recently. Diffusing essential oils is believed by many individuals to provide strong medicinal effects, like alleviating anxiety.

However, essential oils aren't the only thing people add to their diffusers. Since CBD oil gained national prominence, individuals have been adding it to their oil diffusers as well. But is this really effective? Let's first explore oil diffusion, how it works, the different types — and then we'll dive into CBD oil diffusion.

What Is Oil Diffusion?

Oil diffusion is the fluid movement from a higher concentration area to a lower concentration area. Diffusion is what results from the particles of matter kinetic properties. The particles will combine until they've been distributed evenly. You can also think of diffusion as the particle movement down a concentration gradient.

One example of diffusion that's quite common is distributing a spoonful of sugar in a hot cup of coffee or tea. It first dissolves, and then goes on to spread through the liquid. You can also take the spreading of the scent of perfume throughout the air in a room as another example.

How Does Oil Diffusion Works?

Diffusion is the process where molecules are sent from one area to another. In oil diffusers, these particles move with heat (thermal) energy application. They randomly move about and after a bit, this random motion results in uniform distribution of the various particles. Increased pressure or temperature will enhance the rate of diffusion.

What are the Types of Oil Diffusers?

Several types of oil diffusers include:

  1. Evaporative Diffusers

With evaporative diffusers, you drop oil onto the diffuser's permeable pad, so it can evaporate into the air. Certain evaporative diffusers have fans that help encourage the process. This is the simplest and most affordable diffusion method. It's suitable only if you want to distribute the scent.

  1. Heat Diffusers

Also cost-effective and simple are heat diffusers which add heat to the process of evaporation. Heat diffusers involve candle flame heating up the oil, which causes the scent of the oil to disperse into the air.

  1. Ultrasonic Diffusers

These aromatherapy diffusers use electricity to disperse oil into the air. The essential oil particles are broken down into their base molecules. The molecules are then negatively charged, so they disperse by connecting the positively charged molecules.

Water is used in ultrasonic diffusers as a transference mechanism, but they don't rely on steam. Instead, the essential oil will sit on top of the water, and the diffuser begins sending off ultrasonic vibrations that agitate the water, and cause the oil molecules to separate and release negative particles into a fine mist in the air.

Can I Diffuse CBD Oil?

While essential oils are loaded with super lightweight scent molecules that are diffused easily into the air through water vapor, CBD oil is loaded with CBD (cannabidiol). And, this is a far heavier molecule than scent molecules. Essentially, it's too heavy to diffuse around your area with water vapor.

While you can't diffuse CBD oil by itself, you could always take other steps to fill your area with CBD. For instance, you could vaporize terpenes in your oil diffuser. Your entire area will have your favorite relaxing scent profile, without you having to smoke it in a bowl. It might not necessarily engage with your endocannabinoid system like if you were to ingest CBD oil, but the scent of a hemp plant alone can be just enough to relax your body and mind, and ease anxiety.

Of course, you could simply consume CBD oil or a tincture through your food or mouth. While they have a distinctive taste, and you might require a drink afterward, they're an ideal way of obtaining CBD's medicinal effects, without having to smoke it. Or, you can try a different approach - a CBD pillow.

CBD Pillow for Anxiety and Sleep

A CBD pillow, which you can purchase at CBDPillow.com, is another great way of using CBD to ease your anxiety. Our pillows at CBDPillow.com are infused with a micro-encapsulation technology where CBD microcapsules (millions of them) are embedded into the pillow. You receive a slow release of CBD microdoses over the course of the night, unlike with edibles or topicals where the effects wear off after several hours.

You absorb the CBD into your skin, and you also absorb it through your hair follicles while you're sleeping; this helps ease your anxiety, and regulate your sleep.

There is 99% pure crystalline CBD isolate in our microcapsules, which means you do not get any THC, which has the psychoactive effects. Our CBD comes from industrial hemp, and is a transdermal CBD application. We've had extensive third-party lab testing, which uses a Franz cell test on skin that determines how effective the CBD absorption is. And, after extensive lab testing, it was determined each of our CBD pillows still had up to 14% above the CBD's guaranteed amount after washing the pillow 20 times.
